At Stride to Health, we feel that running should enhance your health and help you to feel vital and energetic. If running causes pain or causes you to feel low on energy afterwards, you are doing something wrong.
There is a difference between “fitness” and “health.” We feel that most runners are trained to be “fit”, but unhealthy. We want you to be fit and healthy.
Six pack abs, looking “toned”, and the ability to run a marathon are not good indicators of health. There are many people who have all three of these qualities mentioned, yet if you were to look at their blood under a microscope you would see that they are anything but healthy. This is usually a result of poor nutrition and excessive acid production in the body.
Stride to Health will show you how to make running enjoyable, effortless, and energizing by using principles based on science and health.
Our core running principles are as follows:
- The majority of your running time should be ran at a pace which allows your body to burn fat as a fuel, not sugar.
- Fat is a “cleaner” fuel than sugar. When you burn fat, your body produces less acid as a waste product when compared to burning sugar.
- If you run too fast you will burn more sugar instead of fat, leaving you exhausted in the long run.
- The more sugar you burn, the more acid your muscles produce and the more stressed your body becomes. This build up of acid is a major contributor to running injuries.
- Proper nutrition and hydration are extremely important to “healthy” running. While most runners are taught to use sugar-gels and “carbo-load”, we teach you that these nutritional strategies are unhealthy and harmful to the body due to the mass amounts of acid which are ingested when eating all these sugars.
- By running at a fat burning pace instead of a sugar burning pace, you can allow your mind to focus on the present moment while ridding yourself of any “mental blocks.”
- Proper biomechanics and muscle balance are crucial to the long term prevention of injuries.
The key factors to effortless and enjoyable running are:
- Run at a fat-burning pace
- Consume alkaline foods and drinks and decrease the amount of acidic foods in your diet
- Address any biomechanical abnormalities and muscle imbalances which are putting excessive strain on the body, leaving you prone to injury
At Stride to Health, we’ll teach you how to address all of these factors to enhance your running experience and to get your body healthy.
